POME 2011

I started in October, but it didn’t go too well

A scary time with tricks and treats, the spooky thoughts did dwell.

Days are passing quickly, ideas are nowhere found.

Christmas is coming, does panic have a sound?

When Thanksgiving hurried by and the wishbone crumbled

When the gravy all was gone and tummies fully mumbled

I should have set myself right down and written down the POME,

But procrastination ruled the day, my thoughts resembled foam.

Then were houses full of ginger, cinnamon and cloves

My house has sticky doorknobs and icing on the stove.

So now it’s getting closer, that big December day.

And kids can hardly bear to wait.  Santa’s on the way.

No matter what you think, no matter what you do,

Santa’s gonna get here, he’s never overdue.

Panic all you want and procrastinate once more,

The elves are packing up the sleigh and heading out the door.

Are you writing up your list?  Are you shopping till you drop?

Christmas cards all written?  Brain about to pop?

Time to take a yoga class, or swig the Irish Crème

Or maybe put your jammies on and take some time to dream.

It’s time to dust the bookshelves and quickly mop the floor.

It’s time to decorate the tree and polish up the door.

You must hang up the stockings and post the mistletoe

And rush out to the driveway and put the car in “GO!”

It’s kinda late to knit a sweater, or carve someone a bowl.

You haven’t time to grow a tree, that shouldn’t be a goal.

Amazon’s still shipping, Land’s End still has some socks.

You can do it, yes you can.  You won’t end up with rocks.

Soon it will be over with smiles on every face.

The kids will be all giggles, and ribbons every place.

Presents will be open.  Surprises will abound.

Everyone is happy.  Your worries were unfound.

…and

Then it’s time to put up your feet,

Put on your robe and have a treat.

Take a breath, have a drink, be thankful, dear,

That Christmas comes but once a year.
